P5 Glove Device Driver

This device driver allows you to use your P5 Glove (Essential Reality) to animate or deform objects in Softimage|XSI 4.

The P5 Glove Device Driver provides the following channels which you can link to any parameter or command:

  • Bend data (adduction) for each finger (thumb, index, middle, ring and pinky)
  • positional data (x,y,z)
  • rotational data (yaw, pitch, roll)
  • state data for all glove integrated buttons

version notes
version 1.02: DLL is now a statically linked multithreaded library, you no longer need the C run-time libraries installed (msvcr71.dll, msvcp71.dll) on your machine.
version 1.01: simplified installation process of the add-on, no manual copying of files necessary anymore.
version 1.0: yaw, pitch and roll data needs further processing but bend channels work fine and positional channels work fine in association with smoothing in post (due to jitter/45Hz sampling restriction).

requirements
Windows XP
Softimage|XSI 4 (lower versions might work)
a P5 Glove from Essential Reality with installed default Windows XP driver

important installation notes
Install the add-on by clicking “File”->”Add-On”->”Install”, select the file and your preferred destination (user, factory or workgroup) and click on Install. After a restart of XSI, the driver should show up in the “Animate” toolbar under “Devices”->”Manage Device Drivers”

additional notes
For more information about the P5 Glove visit the company’s homepage.
If you want to buy one visit your local reseller or e.g. ebay since this glove is quite old.
